Media representations in the news
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/sep/14/north-korea-threat-sink-japan-us-ashes-darkness
The news item has put an intercontinental ballistic missile launching. They have done this to show that North Korea has the capability to attack countries. The article is about Korea 'sinking' Japan. The word sink means that they will completely destroy Japan. This makes people scared as if they have the ability to sink a country then what else can they do? They could have used North Korea 'attacks' Japan as people already know they can attack other countries but the use of the word sink makes Korea seem more dangerous.
This article was the first one on the page and was bigger than the others to bring attention to it. This will have been chosen because it was the biggest piece of news there was. They chose this over any other news story that came in that day. They may have chose this because it could cause thousands of deaths in the world. People who read this will be scared of what North Korea can do and are scared they might get attacked even though they can't reach the U.K.
